Aaron Fleming's story, written at the age of 24, of overcoming adversity to become a New Zealand Ironman and one of the country's youngest professional motivational speakers, is one of the most moving tales you will ever hear.
At age 16, when Aaron was on the verge of a promising future in gymnastics, his right lung suffered a series of collapses. After numerous operations he was told that he would never be capable of physically over-exerting himself ever again. He subsequently became addicted to painkillers and suffered from severe depression, even contemplating option out of life. Right then he decided to turn his life around.
With his 'anything is possible' attitude, Aaron began a journey of self-discovery, eventually competing in the grueling New Zealand Ironman. Despite a serious cycling accident during the build-up, he went on to represent New Zealand at Ironman USA Lake Placid. In conjunction with his sporting endeavors Aaron raised a considerable amount of money for cystic fibrosis, changing many lives along the way.
Purpose is a book to motivate and make a difference through telling how a young New Zealand 'everyday' male achieved an impossible dream through sheer determination and gutsy self-belief. Aaron's incredible fortitude and outstanding contribution to the community led to him being selected as New Zealand's Ambassador to carry the Olympic Torch in Canberra for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"Purpose" portrays many messages that are relevant to males and females of all ages - how important it is to live your life to the full, how self belief will get you to places you thought were impossible, and how important it is to follow your dreams. Reading about Aaron's experiences, good and bad, it is impossible not to become motivated and to get up and do something with your own life. He has inspired me to give everything a go and has given me the "anything is possible" attitude. I have read a few inspirational life stories but this one particularly affected me as, being set in New Zealand, and being written by a young New Zealander not much older than myself, I could relate well. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone searching for a bit of inspiration in their life. I can guarantee they will find it.
